Description
Getting all three bridges that span the Cape Cod Canal in one image is a local photographer's trifecta. I shot this through the window of an antique plane as a group of us flew from Plymouth to Hyannis for breakfast. Normally, my pilot friend doesn't come this close, but his flight pattern, great weather and the sun hitting the bridges at just the right angle, helped make a great shot. The Cape Cod Railroad Bridge is at the far end of the canal, Bourne in the middle, and Sagamore in the foreground. The Cape Cod Canal is a manmade waterway traversing the narrow neck of land that joins Cape Cod to the Massachusetts mainland. The canal is spanned by the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge and two highway bridges — Bourne and Sagamore. The canal is approximately 7 miles long and connects Cape Cod Bay in the north to Buzzards Bay in the south. Approximately 20,000 annual users of the canal save about 135 miles by not using the route around the tip of Cape Cod.
